“In a very real sense, the word “God” is just a synonym for everything. So if you do not want to get involved with everything, stay away from God,” says Fr. Richard Rohr. It just might be that God he’s referring to, in that rainbow? Who else might have the kind of power to create such wonders?
I’ve been greatly privileged to be a student of Fr. Richard Rohr for thirty two years because of this evident courage, mysticism, and earthy spirituality. Daily he has taught his many thousands of followers the universality of Love, Creation, and Friend that this God is, and modeled this core truth at his Center for Action and Contemplation and Living School.
The beauty in this way of seeing seems basic. If God, or Source, or the Universe, is not offering solutions to the challenges of being human here in Earth School, then what would be the point? Just struggle, no answers, no hope — and that simply isn’t big enough, for my simple way of seeing life. Either new possibilities offer themselves up for each new situation in each life or it can’t be truth.
And that sure doesn’t mean easy, or simplistic. But when one considers the heavens showing such rainbows beyond our comprehension or ability to make, we’re kind of stopped in our tracks, yes?
I hope with all the fine candidates standing for truth in willing, smart public service today in the mid-term elections. It’s a frightening climate in the United States these days, and the good and thoughtful people inspired to serve, like the Obamas, earn big fat respect.
I’ve wondered since the 2016 campaign if God didn’t have Her hand in a vast house-cleaning project of a country gone a bit off the rails — just wondering.
